Professor at the Post Graduation Program in Veterinary Medicine (PPGMV) from the Federal
Rural University of Pernambuco (UFRPE), Fábio de Souza Mendonça was approved for a
postdoctoral fellowship abroad and will spend seven months at the University of
California (UC Davis), in Davis (California - USA).
Under the supervision of Professor Francisco Uzal **, the project submitted, A
30-year retrospective study of cases of colitis in horses, will deal with
research on the etiology of the various cases of enterocolitis in horses, since
in Brazil this is one of the major diseases that affect these animals.
According to Mendonça, developing the study will provide the necessary training
for the diagnosis of enteric diseases of horses, including histopathology, PCR,
IHC, ELISA and other auxiliary techniques. It is important to emphasize
that all knowledge will be applied to the routine of the Laboratory of Animal
Diagnosis (LDA) of UFRPE. In addition, monitoring the day-to-day of the
California Animal Health and Food Safety Lab will ensure even more sharing of
experiences for the LDA team as whole, he explains.
UC Davis is highly rated nationally and worldwide. According to influential university
rankings, such as US News & World Report, QS World University Rankings,
Times Higher Education World University Rankings and The Princeton Review, the
institution is a reference in studies in the field of Veterinary Medicine.
